The calendar may say otherwise, but it will soon be mid-summer in Long Island City when the Queens Players present Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” beginning Sept. 26
Taking a cue from the current Broadway hit revival of “Pippin,” Director Illana Stein has chosen to place the action within a circus tent populated by fairies who call the shots.
“Whenever I think of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, I immediately think about a line from one of Puck’s last speeches,” said Illana. “‘I am sent with broom before, to sweep the dust behind the door.’ I imagine Puck with a broom cleaning up the mess, erasing all of the visions, and leaving us to wonder what did we just witness? Our wildest dream? A nightmare? A mixture of the two?”
If you’re up for the adventure, the show runs at The Secret Theatre on 23rd Street in LIC from Sept. 26 through Oct. 12. Tickets are $18.
