Attention all budding Doris Kearns Goodwins and William Carlos Williamses, Newtown Literary is holding a writing contest for Queens students in grades 3 through 12.

The Queens Young Authors & Poets contest will award prizes for best prose and for best poetry submission in three grade categories — 3rd, 4th and 5th; 6th, 7th and 8th; and 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th.

Winning submissions will be published in the Spring/Summer 2014 issue of Newtown Literary’s journal and on its website. Honorable mentions will be published online.

Prose writers can submit one story or work of creative nonfiction, on any topic, with a 5,000-word limit.

Poets can enter up to three poems, with no word limit.

Submissions will be accepted through Dec. 20. Winners will be selected next March.
